  • Smaller numbers today as the tail of the run makes its way to the bay. However, both Egegik and Naknek-Kvichak surpassed 10 million in their total run. The strongest escapement yesterday swam through the Kvichak river, as the majority of fish continue to flood that district.
  • The bay-wide run has surpassed the 40 million mark, well on its way to that 44 million pre-season forecast. Port Moller has reported their final catch update for the 2026 fishing season.
  • Once again, crews in the Nushagak caught nearly a million sockeye just the other day, bringing the baywide catch to almost 10 million. A big drop off in the catch index at Port Moller, but their crew says not to worry, there are plenty of sockeye between the transect and the districts.
  • The Bristol Bay sockeye salmon run is underway, with a strong inshore run forecasted at 44.1 million fish. This is 26% smaller than the most recent 10-year average, but 21% greater than the long term average of 37.4 million fish. The bay-wide catch is at 151,668 fish so far, with most of that fish coming in from Ugashik.
  • The bay-wide catch was just 3,000 yesterday, bringing the total run close to half a million fish so far. Naknek tower crews started counting over the weekend, and big catch indices at Port Moller indicate that the fish are on their way.
  • Yesterday was the largest daily catch of the season so far, with over 100,000 fish hauled in—the majority caught in the Ugashik district. But, looking at the latest Port Moller stock composition, over a third of the sampled fish are on their way to the Nushagak, so things should be changing very soon.
  • The total baywide run has surpassed one million fish, with a big haul in the Ugashik district on Tuesday. The Wood River escapement doubled yesterday and, according to Fish and Game, may be on track to double again today.
