In a letter to the region, BBAHC urges residents to get vaccinated

Izzy Ross/KDLG

The medical chief of staff and the CEO of the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation say that individuals have a role in keeping their communities safe during the current outbreak of COVID-19 around the state.

Get vaccinated. That’s the message from the chief of staff and the CEO of the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation, published Friday in a letteraddressed to residents of Bristol Bay.

In the letter, Medical Chief of Staff Dr. Terry O’Malia and CEO Robert Clark said the data on COVID-19 show a regional and statewide outbreak that could get worse before it gets better. And they said that individuals have a role in keeping their communities safe.

O'Malia and Clark said all residents who are eligible to get a vaccine should do so, and they asked everyone to wear a mask in public and avoid large gatherings where people are not masked up.

According to the state’s vaccine dashboard, 64% of Dillingham area residents ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. 92% of people in the Bristol Bay plus Lake and Peninsula boroughs in that age group have done so.
