At a festive assembly Tuesday afternoon, Dillingham High School gathered to celebrate the volleyball team and the wrestlers ahead of their bids to the state tournaments.

The Lady Wolverines departed Wednesday for the state volleyball tournament in Anchorage.

Dillingham Head Coach Meghan Slagle says their first matchup Thursday will be against another set of Wolverines from Tok.

"We saw them earlier this season, and we beat them when we played them the first time over at Lumen Christi," said Coach Slagle, "but I think they've gotten better since then, and so have we -- so we're excited to play them again."

Slagle says her team is gearing up for what looks to be a tough few days of 2A competition, against the likes of Cordova, Petersburg, Klawock, and Craig.

The volleyball action begins Thursday at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Dillingham wrestlers will compete in New Stuyahok this weekend, then host the regions tournament December 12-13 ahead of the state tournament later this month at Bartlett.
