A Bristol Bay resident tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday, according to the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation. It’s not clear where in the region the case was identified. Both the state and BBAHC combine the Lake and Pen and Bristol Bay boroughs in their counts. In an effort to protect patient privacy, officials don’t disclose the specific community when there are less than a thousand residents.
However, Director Mary Swain of the Camai Community Health Center in Naknek says that to her knowledge, no person in the Bristol Bay Borough has tested positive, and she believes that the case is in the Lake and Peninsula Borough.
According to the state health department, there are currently 25 active cases in the combined Bristol Bay and Lake and Pen boroughs — eight residents and 17 non-residents.
Village residents can get tested at their local clinics. In the Bristol Bay Borough, testing is available at the Leader Creek testing site in Naknek from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
