Tony's Run 2015 to start & finish downtown

SAFE

Online registration for the 5K, 10K, and 20K courses is open until Saturday, September 19th.

The 24th Annual Tony’s Run is Sunday, September 20th. This year’s event offers three course lengths for runners, walkers, or rollers.

Run coordinator Lisa Haggblom says the route will be different, with the start and finish lines at the same location downtown:

They’re at the Peter Pan cannery driveway there in town," said Haggblom. "If people are doing the 5K course, they go out on Kanakanak Road, go out and turn around at Gladden’s and come back. Stay on Kanakanak road, turn around on Clark’s Garage where the 5K used to start. Then the people doing the 20K just do the 10K course twice. So go out, come back, turn around, go out and come back."

Haggblom says there are nearly 30 people signed up so far, including three for the 20K course.

There will be no same-day registration, so Haggblom reminds folks to register onlinebefore Saturday at 5 p.m. And she recommends showing up a little early on Sunday.

"They can check in and pick up their number tag or helmet label 45 minutes before their course starts. So the 20k starts at 12:00, the 10k starts at 12:30, and the 5k starts at 1:00."

The run was started to commemorate efforts to end violence by Dillingham police officer Anthony Jones, who was fatally shot on duty in 1992.

Any proceeds from the run go toward SAFE’s youth activities fund. T-shirts will be sold at the potluck following the run, at the Bingo Hall above the Fire Department downtown.
