Vacant house burns down in Levelock

Niels Martin

An unoccupied one-bedroom bungalow caught fire just before 6 p.m. Tuesday; cause is unknown.

A vacant one-bedroom house in Levelock burned down Tuesday night.

Niels Martin was on the scene around 6:30 p.m.

"I had just gotten off work and I was at my house, and some people ran up and said there's a house on fire down here."

Martin said the fire truck arrived and sprayed water on the surrounding brush so the fire would not spread. Volunteers also cut down a few trees in the area.

The entire structure was destroyed by the time the fire burnt itself out.

"The crew here at the village went down with a bulldozer and scraped up what was left at the bottom and made sure there were no more sparks or anything burning in the tundra. It was completely out."

Martin says the cause of the fire is unknown.
