  • The bay-wide run is at 6.1 million fish, with 3.3 million cumulative catch. Harvest was a bit down yesterday. Only Nushagak and Togiak fleets were out fishing, with crews hauling in just over 600,000 fish.
  • Runs are heating up, with almost a million fish hauled in bay-wide on Tuesday, with the biggest catch in the Nushagak with 675,000 fish. Escapement is at 2.4 million bay-wide, and the total run is at 5.2 million. Tonight, we dive further into the Skipper Science Program, catch up with Ugashik fishing crews, and discuss how last year's big catch is affecting this year's markets.
  • Fishermen in the Nushagak hauled in over half a million fish on Monday, and escapement in the Wood River topped a million. Egegik runs have slowed somewhat, and fishing closed in the Naknek-Kvichak where escapement is just over 34,000 fish.
  • Fishing is starting to get underway in the Nushagak, where commercial fishing officially opened last night and fleets hauled aboard almost 350,000 fish. Harvests in Egegik slowed down a bit, and no fish were harvested in Naknek, Ugashik, or Togiak.
  • The season is off to a much slower start than last year, with numbers dropping Saturday, and no harvests in Egegik, Ugashik or Togiak yesterday. But fish are showing up at the Port Moller test fishery. And, Nushagak fleets are getting ready for their first opener.
  • Egegik fleets hauled in the biggest harvest again on Friday. Nushagak fleets are launching en masse but the trigger for an opening has not been met yet - escapement was at 199,000 in the Nushagak River as of this morning, and must reach at least 420,000 sockeye.
  • Runs are starting to pick up in the Nushagak, with now over 126,000 fish escaped upstream. A big push of fish came up the Egegik River, with fishing boats hauling aboard more than half a million fish so far this season. Tonight, we hear the latest on the east side runs in Egegik and Ugashik, fishermen voices and Food Friday featuring favorite ways to eat beluga.
  • Runs are slow in the Nushagak, but sockeye are making an earlier appearance than last year in the Naknek and Kvichak districts. Tonight, we cover price transparency, the Nushagak king action plan, and the weather outlook for the week.
  • Welcome to the Bristol Bay Fisheries Report! It’s a very different start to the season than last year, the 2023 season forecast is down from last year’s record-breaking run of 79 million fish - but still strong at an estimated 51 million. And, we dive into some of the impacts of last season’s massive harvest - what some market analysts are calling a “hangover year” - and fishing crews respond to what could be a dramatic drop in prices.
  • For our final show, we have a deeper look at how the fishery has changed over the years, perspective from Area M and Chignik, the limited entry system, and a few final words from our Fish Report team.
