The primary election is August 18: here's where to vote in Bristol Bay

Izzy Ross/KDLG

There are only a couple of days left for early or absentee voting. Here's where to vote in person, and how to vote online or by mail in the August 18 primary.

Communities across Bristol Bay have polling places open for in-person early or absentee voting, as well as voting on the August 18 primary. But not all places have in-person voting for both early voters and those going to the polls on the primary. Some communities offer in-person voting only for early or absentee voters. Others just have in-person voting on the August 18 primary election.

People can vote by mail for any reason. (Mail applications for the primary election had to be submitted by August 8.) Alaska is also offering a new online application to receive a ballot by email, which must be submitted online by August 17. Online ballots must be printed out and mailed in -- they have to be postmarked by August 18. Faxed ballots must be received by August 18.

Safety measures will be in place at polling places to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The polling places will follow all CDC recommendations and state health mandates. Poll workers will be provided with Personal Protective Equipment, such as face shields, masks, and gloves. Election officials will also be required to disinfect all areas throughout the day. Hand sanitizer will be available for voters to use, and the state is encouraging voters to wear masks.

The final day for early or in-person voting is Monday, August 17. In-person voting is on primary day, Tuesday, August 18.

Here are Bristol Bay communities with early-voting sites, in-person election day voting, or both, as listed by the Alaska Division of Elections.  If your community has an update on in-person primary voting, let us know by emailing isabelle@kdlg.org or calling 907-842-2200.
