Favors new Nushagak Cooperative CEO

The Nushagak Electric and Telephone Cooperative has a new CEO.

Nancy Favors took over for Mike Megli at the start of October. She has worked for the co-op for about 10 years, and said she’s excited, and a little nervous, about her new role.

“I’ve been here for 10 years and I’ve enjoyed working here with the employees and the staff, we have a remarkable group of people here and I look forward to continuing my work with them," she said.

Among the first items she’s tasked with is helping the cooperative navigate a recent change in state rules that means it is no longer required to print phone books.

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska made that determination earlier in October. Favors said the co-op will still print some phone books for 2016, but maybe not as many as in years past.

“At this point we are getting ready to gear up for our 2016 book, so we’re going to be talking to our publisher and see about maybe looking at the cost of what it’s going to be and maybe cutting back on the amount of phone books that we are going to have published,” she said.

Information from the phonebook is also available on the co-op’s website.

Aside from the phone books, Favors said much of the fall will be focused on budget work.

“There’s a lot going on with all three divisions and I’m hoping that we get through this budget process and we move into the new year, we’ll have some unique and fun things coming up,” she said.
