Governor Parnell Signs Six Bills into Law

Governor Sean Parnell spoke at the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday to sign several bills.

Legislation to increase transparency in regulations, legislation benefiting senior citizens seeking exemptions for motor vehicle registration fees and legislation helping crime victims recover seized property are just some of the laws that Governor Parnell signed into law at the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce.  He spoke to the crowd about the discrepancies he saw in Washington DC and how he believes the state of Alaska’s government is improving itself.

“When I ask the question ‘do you think Congress is working with the President, do you think the President with Congress, do you think that they are working for us as a people, is it functional?’ And I got to tell you the answer across most of Alaska is no. But the beauty of what we have here in this state is we have a fully functional executive and legislative branch.”

Parnell started the signatures with HB 140 which is an act that requires a proposed regulation or amendment to identify federal law or decision in order for Alaskans to better understand government actions that affect their businesses and lives.

“Getting government regulation, getting that burden off you as small business owners and individual Alaskans is also important.”

Next, Parnell signed SB 195.  This legislation is intended to improve student loans in Alaska by changing state laws regarding the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education and the Alaska Student Loan Corporation.

The governor signed six bills altogether on Wednesday.  Parnell then traveled to Palmer for a ribbon cutting at the Maud Road Shooting Range project.  The project has the backing of the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water and the Southcentral Regional Office.
