AFN Update: Hoffman and Sweeney Elected Co-Chairs

AFN

The members of the Alaska Federation of Natives elected 2-new co-chairs during the annual convention that wrapped up Saturday. There were 4 nominees for the co-chair positions, including incumbent Ralf Anderson from Dillingham. The candidate with the most votes in Saturday’s election was Ana Hoffman from Bethel. She’s the President and CEO of the Bethel Native Corporation. Hoffman has a degree in Psychology from Stanford and a Master’s Degree in Rural Development from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. As part of the new staggered terms for AFN co-chairs, Hoffman will serve a 2-year term. Tara Sweeney from Barrow is the other newly elected co-chair. She’s the Senior Vice President of External Affairs for the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation. Sweeney received the second most votes in Saturday’s election. Under the new staggered terms for the AFN Co-chairs Sweeney will serve a 1-year term. That means that her term will be up during the 2014 Alaska Federation of Natives Convention.
