33 people test positive for COVID-19 in three Dillingham area communities
The cases were detected in three communities over the weekend, though not in the City of Dillingham, said BBAHC. The people who tested positive and their households are currently in isolation.
Thirty-three people in the Dillingham area tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. That’s according to the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation, which reported the cases to the state on Monday; as of Monday afternoon, those cases were not reflected on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard.
The cases were detected in three communities in the area, though not in the City of Dillingham, the health corporation said. The people who tested positive and their households are currently in isolation.
The Dillingham Census Area includes the communities of Aleknagik, Clark’s Point, Dillingham, Ekwok, Manokotak, New Stuyahok, Portage Creek, Togiak, and Twin Hills.
In the combined Lake and Peninsula and Bristol Bay boroughs, 20 people have tested positive since the beginning of August, five of whom were residents.
The spike of COVID-19 in the Dillingham area this month has prompted lockdowns in New Stuyahok and and Manokotak, and has mirrored higher case counts in many parts of the state.
BBAHC reminds everyone to wear masks in public, wash their hands, stay at least six feet apart from others, and limit group activities with people outside their households.
BBAHC also said that its staff will continue to travel to villages to provide testing and vaccinations. It currently offers the Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen vaccines. To schedule a vaccine with the health corporation, call 907-842-9591.
Testing and vaccinations are also available in Dillingham at the Capstone Clinic, located downtown at the old Tribal building by the library. Capstone also offers testing at Freshwater Adventures by the airport, open 12 - 6 p.m., seven days a week.
