Two Western Alaska doctors honored at AFN

Dr. Nora Nagaruk of Unalakleet and Dr. Elise Pletnikoff of Sand Point recieved awards Saturday.

  Two Western Alaska doctors were honored at the Alaska Federation of Natives convention Saturday.

Dr. Nora Nagaruk was born and raised in Unalakleet and now lives in Nome. She received the Della Keats “Healing Hands” Award.

The Health Award went to Dr. Elise Pletnikoff, who has returned to her hometown of Sand Point to practice medicine after attending school in Kodiak. 

Dr. Elise Pletnikoff is from Sand Point, Alaska.

According to the AFN President’s Award criteria, these awards recognize Alaska Native medical providers who demonstrate “strong commitment, competence, and sensitivity” in improving healthcare for Alaska Natives.
