A Fire Broke Out Earlier This Week Onboard the Bristol Leader... Vessel is Owned in Part by BBEDC

A small fire has damaged a large freezer longliner that is owned in part by the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation. The 167-foot Bristol Leader was moored at Pier 91 in Seattle when the fire broke out early Tuesday morning in the vessel’s galley. The fire resulted in the vessel being evacuated but no serious damage was reported. The fire reportedly burned in a bulkhead behind a commercial stove and was confined to the galley area. The Bristol Leader was scheduled to go cod fishing this week but now the vessel will stay put while the vessel is repaired. Repairs will likely take about a week. The Bristol Leader is part of the longline fleet of Alaska Leader Fisheries. The Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation owns 50-percent of the company, which includes a 50-percent ownership stake in the Bristol Leader.
