Snake Lake Road Temporarily Closed

KDLG

It appears that boaters have at least another weekend of waiting to get to popular Snake Lake between Dillingham and Aleknagik.

DILLINGHAM:  The access road has been temporarily closed to traffic by the Alaska Department of Transportation. DOT says the road needs to dry out from the recent snow melt and runoff before it can handle vehicle traffic, otherwise the gravel road may get damaged early this season.

A large gravel pile has been placed to block access to the road, which DOT says will be removed when the conditions are better.

Although signs on Snake Lake Road say it is not a state-maintained road, DOT says it is a state route, and can receive limited maintenance when necessary.
