Boundary Line Confusion in Bristol Bay

Commercial fishing vessels in Bristol Bay have different requirements to meet depending on whether or not they are used inside or outside of a particular line on the map. The so-called “Boundary Line” can be confusing to fishermen. KDLG’s Mike Mason spoke with the Coast Guard to clear up the confusion.

The U.S. Coast Guard had to medevac a commercial fishermen Tuesday from a fishing vessel in the Bering Sea. The request for a medevac came from the crew of the 158-foot Aricia and a helicopter and aircrew were launched from Cold Bay, which is a forward operating location for the Coast Guard during the fishing season in the Bering Sea.

4 fishermen were rescued by the Coast Guard Wednesday after abandoning ship about 190-miles southwest of Kodiak. The fishermen were found in a life-raft at 10:30pm Wednesday night and were taken aboard a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter. They were taken to Kodiak. The Coast Guard also took aboard a dog that was with the fishermen.
