Latest COVID-19 news: Community spread suspected in Dillingham, BBAHC cancels non-urgent procedures

Brian Venua/KDLG

BBAHC is limiting some medical services, such as regularly scheduled appointments, citing the steep rise of COVID-19 cases regionally and around the state.

A Dillingham resident tested positive for COVID-19 Sunday. It is suspected to be community spread of the coronavirus, according to the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation. The person was experiencing symptoms when they tested positive, and they and their close contacts are currently in isolation.

Certain medical services in Bristol Bay have also been halted for now, the health corporation said. It cited the steep rise of COVID-19 cases regionally and around the state.

Regularly scheduled appointments that are not urgent are cancelled until further notice.

The status of normal medical checkups and procedures has been in flux this month, and BBAHC says it will announce any updates to its protocols weekly, or sooner if the situation changes.

Before coming to the hospital, patients should call the outpatient department at 907-842-9440.

The health corporation strongly recommends that people limit celebrations and gatherings to those within their household.
