Colonel Jim Cockrell Appointed to Head the Alaska State Troopers

Alaska Department of Public Safety

The Alaska State Troopers have a new director. Department of Public Safety Commissioner Gary Folger has appointed Colonel Jim Cockrell to head the Troopers effective immediately. Cockrell has been with the Department of Public Safety since 1983. He retired as a major in the Troopers in 2004 but soon rejoined the Troopers to coordinate a joint enforcement agreement with federal agencies. Cockrell retired again in 2007. Last June he was appointed the Director of the Division of Wildlife Troopers and he now takes over as the head of all Troopers.
