Murkowski talks Pebble and ANWR on trip to Dillingham
KDLG spoke with Sen. Lisa Murkowski about permanent protections for Bristol Bay and her stance toward the Biden administration; a federal judge Tuesday blocked the administration's suspension of oil leases on federal land and water.
Groups that oppose the proposed Pebble Mine issued another call Thursday for the Environmental Protection Agency to permanently protect Bristol Bay through the Clean Water Act. KDLG’s Izzy Ross spoke with Sen. Lisa Murkowski about her approach to the issue during a visit to Dillingham in early June.
We also asked about another contested resource extraction issue — oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It’s something that Murkowski and the rest of the Alaska delegation have pushed for for years. In early June, the Biden administration suspended the oil leases in ANWR, which were issued in January. A federal judge Tuesday blocked the administration's suspension of oil leases in federal land and water.
Update: This story has been updated to reflect that a federal judge on June 11 blocked the Biden administration's suspension of oil leases in federal land and water.
