KTOO

Members of the Alaska House of Representatives voted unanimously Thursday to honor the life of the late Walter Soboleff. The legislation would set aside November 14th to honor Soboleff who’s considered one of Alaska’s statesman. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 102. Soboleff was the first Alaska Native pastor in Juneau and he was an admired spiritual leader and teacher. Walter Soboleff was a translator and scholar of the Tlingit language and the first Native Alaskan to be ordained as a Presbyterian minister. The legislation establishing a Walter Soboleff day in Alaska now heads the Alaska Senate for consideration.
