Alaska has a new record for the lowest wind chill ever recorded. The National Weather Service confirms that Friday afternoon at 3:39 the wind chill in Howard Pass in the Brooks Range dropped down to -97-degrees. That breaks the old record of -96 degrees set on January 28th, 1989 in Prudhoe Bay. The air temperature in Howard Pass Friday afternoon dropped to -42-degrees and the winds were recorded at 71-miles per hour. That resulted in the record breaking wind chill of -97-degrees. Howard Pass is uninhabited.
