Friday is the Deadline to Comment on Regulating Land Use in the Aleutians East Borough

For nearly a year the Aleutians East Borough has been working on a system to regulate resource development. The Borough has been seeking public comments on the proposed permitting system and today is the deadline to submit comments to the consultants working for the Borough on the project. The consultants have been working alongside the Borough’s Planning Commission and they recently held workshops to discuss the proposed code changes and how to permit sand, gravel, coal, oil and gas development. It’s anticipated that a revised set of documents will be presented to the Aleutians East Borough Planning Commission during their November meeting. The Borough includes the communities of Cold Bay, False Pass, Nelson Lagoon, and Sand Point.
