Former Kwigillingok pleads to reduced charge in sexual abuse case

KDLG:  A former Lower Kuskowkim School District teacher accused of having sex with a 15 year old student has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second degree harassment.

Michael Wier, 32, was a teacher in Kwigillingok for seven years before he was arrested last May. Another teacher reported finding Wier and the student having sex in a classroom after hours last March.

The Alaska Dispatch is reporting that the victim’s testimony had changed in ways that the prosecution said would make going to trial difficult.

Wier had been charged with first degree sexual abuse of a minor, an unclassified felony. The second degree harassment charge is a class B misdemeanor. He will have to give up his teaching certificate as part of the plea deal, according to Dispatch reporting.
