Rasmuson Foundation brings art grants workshop to Dillingham
The Rasmuson Foundation is holding an interactive workshop in Dillingham, focused on helping artists learn about the foundation’s Individual Artist Awards program.
The Rasmuson Foundation's workshop is part of a series of presentations the foundation is holding around Alaska, featuring tutorials on how artists can apply to the grant and fellowship programs.
“Writing and crafting your proposals — so how to write a narrative, how to write an artist’s statement, how to draft a resume, and specifically how to create an artist’s resume when you may not have the traditional academic training that would go into an artist’s resume,” said Enzina Marrari, who works for the foundation as a program officer.
The Individual Artist program began in 2004. According to Marrari, it was an effort by the Rasmuson foundation to invest in arts and culture in Alaska. They decided to do so by supporting artists directly.
By reaching out in communities like Dillingham, Marrari said they are hoping to reach more rural artists and encourage them to apply by offering help with applications and the application process.
“I think it’s relevant to all artists, and our goal is to reach more underserved areas and more underserved artists,” she said.
Twenty-five project awards are available to artists at all levels, with 10 fellowships available to mid-career and mature artists. There is also a Distinguished Artist Award. Students are not eligible to apply, but Marrari still encourages emerging student artists to participate in the workshop.
“I think it would be really beneficial for younger artists, or artists who are really in the early stages of their careers to come and learn about the program and the process," she said.
The artists’ workshop takes place tomorrow at the UAF Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham. Doors open at 5:15 and the program starts at 5:30. Applications are available on the Rasmuson Foundation's website.
