Togiak Herring Update: Harvest Tops 23-Thousand Tons

Thorey Munro

The Togiak sac-roe herring fishery keeps chugging right along. Another 1.3-thousand tons of herring were harvested Saturday to push the season total to just over 23-thousand tons. That still short of the total quota of 27.8-thousand tons. Saturday’s harvest by the purse seine fleet was 982-tons of herring, which pushed the total harvest for the purse seine gear group up to 17.3-thousand tons of herring. The total quota available to the purse seine fleet is 19.5-thousand tons. Saturday’s harvest by the gillnet fleet was 405-tons of herring to push their total harvest for the season up to 5.7-thousand tons. That’s still well short of their total quota of 8.3-thousand tons of herring. Currently, both the purse seine and gillnet fisheries are open until further notice.
