The Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation declared an emergency Thursday due to what it says is an influx of COVID-19 patients to its facilities and an uptick of cases around the region.
BBAHC said Thursday that it logged 83 COVID-19 cases around Bristol Bay within the previous week. The state has reported 108 cases in the region since the beginning of the month.
The health corporation also re-activated its COVID-19 Incident Command team. It announced the change on Thursday, three months after it dismantled the team in early June.
The team’s revival is the latest in several changes to BBAHC’s operations in recent weeks. It has ramped up COVID-19 precautions at its village clinics and at Kanakanak Hospital in Dillingham, and many appointments will now be held over the phone.
