Nuvista Cooperative Requesting Special Access in Wood Tikchik SP

The Calista-subsidiary hopes to continue non-invasive studies aimed at determining the feasibility of a hydroelectric dam at Chikuminuk Lake.

Nuvista Electric and Light Cooperative has applied for special authorization to continue non-invasive studies around Chikuminuk Lake and the upper Allen River, the site for a proposed hydroelectric dam in the Wood Tikchik State Park.

The Department of Natural Resources, recognizing a mutual benefit to the park from some of the research, seems poised to issue those permits.

DNR says the permits, for the most part, will allow the use of helicopters in an area of the park they’re not allowed.  KDLG’s Dave Bendinger has more:
