The Alaska Dept. of Transportation had intended to put the Wood River bridge project out to bid in January, with hopes to break ground by July. Now, DOT says that'll be pushed back a year.

To blame, says project manager Jim Amundsen, are a pair of right-of-ways yet to be secured, and a permit from the US Coast Guard that's been unexpectedly slow in coming. For many residents in Aleknagik, it's another frustrating delay in a long process to get a year-round, safe crossing between the North and South Shores.
