Congressman Don Young has chosen to vote with his Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives to delay implementation of the “Affordable Care Act”. Young voted for a continuing resolution on Sunday that seeks to fund the federal government through mid-December. However, the resolution doesn’t seem to have the support of the majority in the U.S. Senate because it includes a one-year delay in the “Affordable Care Act”.
In a prepared statement Congressman Young claims the “Affordable Care Act”, which takes effect Tuesday, will raise Alaskans insurance premiums by 30 to 80-percent. If a deal is not reached on a continuing resolution the Federal Government will shut down at the start of the new Federal Fiscal Year, which is Tuesday. A shut down could force about 800-thousand federal workers off the job without pay. Sunday’s continuing resolution was passed on a nearly party line vote in the House and was sent back to Senate for consideration.
