Businesses that sell food in national parks across the country would not sell Alaskan fish if they stick to new healthy foods guidelines from the park service. Those call for seafood to be certified by the Marine Stewardship Council or the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Alaska lost its MSC certification this year.
The Park Service’s move has prompted pushback from industry and Alaska’s congressional delegation. And that may have worked: the head of the parks said Thursday that he is willing to change the guidelines. KDLG’s Ben Matheson has more:
