Small grass fire Friday in Dillingham

DILLINGHAM: The Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a small grass fire Friday afternoon in Olsonville, off Chuthmok Drive. A handful of volunteers were able to hose down the fire which was spreading quickly through dry grass behind some outbuildings.

The fire was apparently caused by a cigarette.

The City of Dillingham still has a burn ban in effect, and city, state, and federal officials are continuing to warn of a high risk of wild fires in Southwest Alaska right now.
