Hoffman offers compromise to protect PCE fund

Senate Bill 196 would offer some of the fund's earnings back to the state and a renewable energy projects fund, with hopes to keep lawmakers' hands off the corpus.

The state endowment set aside to subsidize rural energy costs has grown to over a billion dollars. Now Alaska lawmakers are indicating once again they might try to tap into the PCE fund to help pay for other programs. A bill in the Senate will try to prevent that by offering to give some of the fund’s earnings back to the state.
