DNR Commissioner Dan Sullivan Deployed to Afghanistan

State of Alaska

The Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources has been sent to Afghanistan. It’s not a trade mission or a public relations effort. Rather, Dan Sullivan is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps and is serving in the Selected Marine Corps Reserves. He’s the Executive Officer of the 4th Marine Division Anti-Terrorism Battalion and is on a 6-week deployment. Alaska Governor Sean Parnell issued a statement Monday expressing gratitude to Commissioner Sullivan and wishing him safe travels. DNR Deputy Commissioner Joe Balash (Bay-lash) will serve as the acting commissioner Sullivan’s absence.
