This week, we'll join the 56 students on their first day in the new Tanalian School in Port Alsworth.

Speaking of Port Alsworth, did you know that hundreds of wounded veterans and their spouses have been spending time at a lodge retreat there for the past four summers?

A hotel lodge in King Salmon is succeeding in carving out a new niche in the summer’s tourism industry in the Bay. In Dillingham, we noticed a handful of volunteers get together and get something done this week. Those stories, plus a conversation with Rep. Bryce Edgmon, ahead in the next half hour.

State Education Commissioner Mike Hanley, left, and Lake and Peninsula Borough Mayor Glen Alsworth, right, prepare to cut the ribbon at the Tanalian School Tuesday.
