Manokotak's annexation, the dangers of an over-the-counter heroin substitute, more on fall hunting, and dino fossils in Katmai?

KDLG staff joined a few dozen others in the parking lot Friday for a retirement sendoff for longtime General Manager Rob Carpenter. Though Rob officially retired as GM, he'll continue to be involved with KDLG on a contract basis, and he and Gina plan to stay put in their home on Lake Aleknagik.

This is Bristol Bay and Beyond, KDLG’s weekly newsmagazine. It's Friday, August 7: Coming up this week, we continue or hunting season series of conversations with wildlife managers, today with a focus on the area 17 moose. The City of Manokotak is moving ahead with its efforts to annex the Igushik fishing section. We’ll join a hunt for dinosaur fossils in Katmai, follow a new teacher around on her first day in Dillingham, and Doctor Cathy Hyndman discusses the danger behind the use of an over the counter medicine some are using to treat heroin withdraws.

Those stories are coming up after a look back at some of the week’s news.
