Northern Dynasty Minerals has responded to the allegations made earlier this week by U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell that the company was misleading federal officials. In a written statement issued Tuesday Northern Dynasty Minerals President and CEO claimed that Senator Cantwell's concerns have no basis in fact.

A member of the U.S. Senate is urging the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate one of the companies looking at developing a massive gold and copper mine in the Bristol Bay region.

Legislation being considered in Juneau would start the process for the state to take over the system to issue dredge and fill permits from the Federal Government for wetlands, lakes, rivers and all other surface waters. The effort by the EPA to finalize their "Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment" has been delayed as the agency intends to add to the document and undertake another peer review.  That has prompted additional questions from members of Congress.  

Commercial Fishermen for Bristol Bay

An organization formed to advocate for the commercial fishing industry in Bristol Bay has sent a letter to President Obama asking him to ensure that the EPA quickly wraps up its work to finalize the "Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment".

An effort is underway to change a planning document for the Bristol Bay region in such a way as to stop the development of large mines.
