Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is buying 5-more Boeing 737-900 extended range aircraft worth over $481-million dollars. 2 of the new planes will be ready to go in 2015 followed by 2 more planes in 2016. The final plane should be ready in 2017. The new order supplements the 31 planes Alaska Airlines already has on order with Boeing. The company anticipates having over 130 Boeing 737’s in the fleet by the end of 2014.

Large New Longliner Has Ties to Bristol Bay

Alaska's Unemployment Rate Stands at 5.7-Percent

The latest unemployment data shows a slight decrease in the unemployment rate in Alaska. The unadjusted rate in August was 5.7-percent, which is down from the 5.9-percent rate recorded in July. However, when Alaska’s unemployment rate is seasonally adjusted it jumps up to 6.5-percent. That’s up 2-tenths of a percentage point compared to July’s seasonally adjusted rate. Alaska’s unemployment rate is still below the national rate of 7.3-percent.

The local electric utility for the Dillingham area will have to wait until early next month to receive the fall shipment of fuel. The Nushagak Cooperative supplies electricity to the Dillingham area by operating several diesel powered generators.
