The person had recently traveled outside of the region and is currently in isolation at home. The people they live with have been notified and tested, and the state is contact tracing.

The first person to test positive October 8 is in isolation. A close contact of that case tested positive the same day. That person is not experiencing symptoms and had recently traveled outside the region.

Absentee votes could be enough to make a difference in races for Dillingham City Council and the Bristol Bay Borough School Board.

David Lax is running against Randolph Zimin to fill the borough's mayoral seat. Kendra Gottschalk is challenging assembly incumbent Russell Phelps for the open assembly seat.

Two school board seats are up for grabs, and Floyd Wilson is challenging the two incumbents. The two candidates with the most votes will be appointed to the board.

There are several competitive races heading into the October 6 election, including for borough mayor. David Lax and Randy Zimin are both vying to succeed the current mayor, Dan O'Hara, who is not running for re-election.

The two people in the Bristol Bay Borough tested negative in Seattle before chartering to Naknek, where they were in quarantine, while the newest case in the Lake and Peninsula Borough was a contact from an earlier case, according to the Camai Health Center.

Four communities have asked the governor to consider closing Bristol Bay's commercial fishery. Processors have laid out plans aimed at keeping the fishery safe. And RavnAir has temporarily halted all operations.

This week, we covered teleconferences from Dillingham to Bristol Bay Borough, as both local governments prepare for a potential spread of the coronavirus. No cases have been confirmed in Bristol Bay. Dillingham business owners shared how they are coping with closures and changes to operations. Villages around Bristol Bay are shutting down travel and school districts share updates to academic calendars. 

The Environmental Protection Agency announced on December 5 that it is contributing $20.5 million to the state’s plan to improve drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in communities around Alaska.

Candidate Gene Sanderson requested the recount after the borough's canvas of the absentee and question ballots put him only two votes behind incumbent Pete Caruso. 

Bristol Bay Borough

Pete Caruso leads Gene Sanderson by only one vote for a seat on the assembly. Question ballots and absentee votes will be counted on November 13.
