Hawkins devoted his career to planning and managing land use, which included work for Choggiung Village Corporation in Dillingham and 16 years with Bristol Bay Native Corporation, where he retired as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Alaska Sea Grant colleagues remember Terry as someone who loved the ocean, boating, and writing, and say Alaskans across the state benefited from his knowledge and expertise.
