Friends of the Blues
Saturday 8pm-10pm, 89.9 FM

Friends of the Blues hosted by "Shuffle Shoes the Blues Guru" and Dr. Skyy This show features the legends like Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and Sonny Boy Williamson; current "unknown" wailers like Kid Ramos and Too Slim and the Taildraggers; and regional stand-outs like "Mondo" Cortez's Chicago Blues Angels, and the Kilborn Alley Blues Band. True aficionados the hosts are immersed in Blues culture; they know the artists, the labels, the recordings, the band members - and they do a good amount of traveling to live blues performances throughout the U.S. Packing in about 15 cuts per hour, Shuffle Shoes and Sky Dobro allow the music to do the talking. They've mastered the short and sweet back-announcement, with interpersonal banter... Their style is ¿easy¿ ¿ yet they still deliver loads of information about the artists' lives and careers. They identify with the famous, celebrated artists, as well as those that never left their native home town. Blues today, has become a universal language about the human condition. In broadcasting, this genre exists primarily on public radio. There are a number of fine Blues programs on public radio stations across the country, but in terms of programming mix, few are better than this one. The Friends of the Blues can be a great compliment to any station's existing Blues, Jazz, Soul or AAA presence. So, "... Let the good times roll!" Friends of the Blues is produced from the studios of WKCC, on the campus of Kankakee Community College, Kankakee IL.
