Reminder: take care at busy Aleknagik boat launch

Luke Brummer

Swimming on the boat launch is dangerous for both swimmers and boaters, says Park Ranger Eskelin.

With all this hot sunny weather, the boat launch at Aleknagik is seeing a lot of traffic from boaters and swimmers.

Wood Tik Chik State Park ranger Alison Eskelin says she’s heard a number of complaints about swimmers creating a safety hazard at the ramp.

"It’s getting pretty congested at the boat launch, so we’d just like to remind people to be safe and take their time. We’ve actually had a lot of swimmers that have been swimming right on the ramp itself, and we’d like to ask people to stay on the ramp unless they’re launching a vessel of some sort."

The parking lot has been filling up, as well. Ranger Eskelin asks that cars park in the single car spaces on the side, to leave room for trucks and trailers in the bigger spaces.
