Public meeting planned on Nerka Subdivision Roads Project

Bristol Engineering Services Corporation

The project seeks to widen and pave roads within Nerka Subdivision as well as build a new road from Teal Lane to Emperor.

Next Monday there will be a public meeting in Dillingham on a project that seeks to widen, pave, and extend roads in the Nerka Subdivision.

Isaac Pearson is a senior civil engineer for Bristol Engineering Services Corporation, the contractor hired to eventually make the improvements.

"Ultimately all the streets will be widened and paved with new sidewalks on some of the streets," said Pearson. "They also intend on punching a new street through the Teal Extension. So the Teal Lane Extension will connect the existing Teal Lane to Emperor Road, to the north, and it will cross the north fork of Squaw Creek."

Pearson says the stream crossing will require putting in a large culvert, similar to the one at the Widheon Lane crossing downstream.

The design phase of the Nerka Roads Project is funded through Curyung Tribal Council with Indian Roads Reservation funds.

Pearson says the design phase is nearly complete, but the timeline for the rest of the project is still up in the air.

"The design is anticipated to be completed in 2016," says Pearson. "As of now, not enough construction funding to push the project through, but the tribe is very excited and actively pursuing funding sources to help make this occur."

The public, especially those who live in and around Nerka Subdivision, are invited to provide comments next Monday the 9th at 6pm in the Dillingham City Council chambers.
