Over $27-Million Dollars in Grants Awarded to Improve Water Systems in Alaska Villages

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving out over $27-million dollars in grants to help several Alaska villages upgrade their water and sewer systems. The village of Hooper Bay will benefit from the over $5.7-million dollars being given to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to build a water and sewer system. DEC is also getting over $3-million dollars to build a water system in Quinhagak (QUINN-uh-hawk). The Kuskokwim River community of Akiachak (ACK-ee-uh-chuck) is getting $150-thousand dollars to prepare an environmental assessment and business plan for a new water system. The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is getting over $4.6-milllion dollars to improve the water and wastewater systems in Kwethluk. All told 11-grants were announced last month to help rural Alaska villages with their water and wastewater infrastructure.
