The Nushagak Cooperative will receive the next fuel shipment in October

The local electric utility for the Dillingham area will have to wait until early next month to receive the fall shipment of fuel. The Nushagak Cooperative supplies electricity to the Dillingham area by operating several diesel powered generators. The cooperative will get its winter supply of fuel sometime next month according to General Manager Mike Megli. He provided an update on the fuel shipment during Tuesday night’s Board of Directors meeting. The Nushagak Cooperative will take in 750-thousand gallons of diesel fuel and that fuel will be placed into the Cooperative’s new 850-thousand gallon bulk fuel tank that was constructed this summer. Megli anticipates that the new fuel tank will eventually allow the Cooperative to take just one fuel shipment a year instead of the normal 2 shipments a year. Megli noted that diesel prices have been fairly volatile in recent weeks but he says they are apparently on their way down. In other action the Nushagak Cooperative Board of Directors approved a distribution of $52.5-thousand dollars out of the Scholarship Fund to pay for 31 scholarship for local students. 5 local students will get $2-thousand dollars scholarships and 18 students will get $1.5-thousand dollars scholarships. 8 students will get $1-thousand dollars scholarships. As part of the distribution from the Scholarship Fund the Nushagak Cooperative Board of Directors are also giving $7.5-thousand dollars to the UAF Bristol Bay Campus in Dillingham to fund their dual credit program.
