King Salmon Sport Season Open in Bristol Bay

The season is open May 1 - July 31.

It may be several weeks premature for fishermen and the fish, but the king salmon sport fishing season in Bristol Bay officially opened Wednesday. Last year, the Nushagak River had a strong return of king salmon, while most other runs around the state were low.  Some new restrictions are in place this year, with hopes to protect that strong run. (Find more info from the Dept. of Fish and Game here ... annual king tags can be purchased here.)

**Correction to the audio story: the limits, on the Nushagak River, for king salmon less than 20" are 5 per day, 5 in possession.
