Fishermen Rescued in the Gulf of Alaska After Abandoning Ship

4 fishermen were rescued by the Coast Guard Wednesday after abandoning ship about 190-miles southwest of Kodiak. The fishermen were found in a life-raft at 10:30pm Wednesday night and were taken aboard a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter. They were taken to Kodiak. The Coast Guard also took aboard a dog that was with the fishermen. The Coast Guard was alerted to the plight of the fishermen onboard the Ocean Viking by a Trident Seafoods employee in Chignik who heard a VHF message on Channel 16. The message was that the 76-foot Ocean Viking was taking on water and the crew was abandoning ship into a life-raft. The fishermen put on their immersion suits and activated an emergency radio beacon. At last report the vessel was partially submerged and the Coast Guard confirms that its presents a hazard to navigation. The Coast Guard is still investigating the incident.
