The jail closed because the police department was short-staffed. It employs two corrections officer, but has three vacant positions in that division.
Dillingham’s City Jail has reopened after shutting down for two weeks because it was short-staffed. IPolice Chief Dan Pasquariello said in an email that people can serve time at the jail again. The jail will also accept people who are arrested from all law enforcement agencies.
The police department was down to one corrections officer while the other officer was away for medical in June. The corrections division currently employs two correction officers. Three positions are vacant -- DPD is hiring for a corrections officer, a dispatcher and a police officer.
