City auctioning Bingman apartments

KDLG News

The City of Dillingham is looking for a new owner - and manager - of about seven apartment buildings it acquired through foreclosure this summer.

The City of Dillingham is selling several buildings acquired this summer when it foreclosed on property owned by James Bingman. KDLG's Molly Dischner reports.

City Manager Rose Loera said, the city is taking written bids through Nov. 3, rather than holding a live auction as it's done in the past.

“I believe there’s about seven pieces of property that’s being sold, all the apartments in the Bingman area, there are a few pieces of property that we’re not selling at this time. We’re seeing what we’re going to be able to get from the initial sale.”

The apartments are being sold as-is, and the minimum bid is $380,000. Loera said the only property the city plans to keep is the harbor property. Plans for the land won’t be finalized until more cleanup is done.

“We’re starting to clean it up a little at a time right now, and probably by next spring or so we may be able to put out an RFP for someone to come and really take all the metal out of there and see what we got. We don’t know what’s under the soil.”

The city foreclosed on the property in July after a multi-year effort to collect unpaid taxes from owner Jim Bingman.
