The Dillingham Lady Wolverines Win the "Spikefest" Tournament... Koliganek Huskies 2nd

Last month the Dillingham volleyball team won their only home tournament of the season. The annual “Spikefest” tournament was held on November 22nd and 23rd in Dillingham. The lady wolverines won the tournament by beating Koliganek in straight sets… 25-21, and 25-16. Koliganek advanced to the championship game by beating New Stuyahok 25-19 and 25-12. Dillingham advanced to the championship game by beating New Stuyahok by scores of 25-9, and 25-10. The lady wolverines kicked off the “Spikefest” tournament by beating New Halen by scores of 25-11, and 25-9. The Dillingham varsity team then beat Koliganek by scores of 25-17, and 25-20. Dillingham never lost in the tournament, while Koliganek made it through to the championship game by winning the tournament’s “loser’s” bracket. Several other team participated in the tournament. The Bristol Bay Angels kicked off the “Spikefest” tournament with a loss to New Stuyahok. They were then knocked out of the tournament with a loss to the eventual 2nd place team from Koliganek. Togiak also participated but suffered back to back losses to Koliganek and New Halen. The all-tournament team included Leilanni Saena from New Stuyahok, Janae Panamarioff from New Stuyahok, Promise Smith from Bristol Bay, Drew Carlos from Dillingham, Marsha Poulsen from Togiak, Mariah Dray from the Dillingham J-V team, Samantha Ishnook from Koliganek, Kelsea Wassillie from New Halen, Lorinda Mitchell from Togiak, and Kaley Rolf from Dillingham. The Dillingham Lady Wolverines are the defending 2-A state champions and they are now 10-0 in the region and 18-1 on the year. The next action for the lady wolverines will be the regional tournament in Naknek. The tournament will begin this coming Thursday and wrap up on Saturday. The winner of the regional tournament will advance to the state tournament December 12th through the 14th in Anchorage.
