DLG Man Arrested for Repeatedly Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

DILLINGHAM:  Leon J. Ayuluk, 45, of Dillingham, was arrested by Alaska State Troopers Thursday on a charge that he had failed to register as a sex offender. Troopers say he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest.

Ayuluk has a history of failing to register as a sex offender, beginning in 2006, less than three years after he was sentenced to five years in prison for a 2003 conviction on second degree sexual assault.

The 2006 arrest in Anchorage for failing to register was followed up by two arrests in Anchorage in 2008 for the same crime, and another in 2009. He pled guilty at the arraignment for the 2009 charge, a class C felony for the repeated violations, and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 110 suspended.

In 2011, Ayuluk was again arrested in Anchorage on the same charge, but the prosecutors chose to dismiss.

Troopers said Thursday they are charging Ayuluk with a class C felony of failing to register as a sex offender in the first degree. He was booked at the jail in Dillingham.
